Campaign against malaria 3

Campaign against malaria

Deborah took to patrolling like a duck to water. In the bottom snap she made the comment: “trying the pumping technique”. I subsequently found out that she felt much safer in the jungle than left in Angoram alone to the amorous advances of some of the expats on the station. I think I was the envy of many a young blade in town.

Campaign against malaria
The bottom photo shows the team loading up for a trip down river to the Pora Pora. In the top photo I’m talking to the people about our campaign. Deborah, who took the snap entitled it: “The art of persusion”.
The middle photo is the rest house where we stayed at the first village where our operations started.

Expatriates in Angoram

April 3, 2008 at 7:08 pm (Commentary, Visual memories)

Expatriates in Angoram

Expatriates haven in Angoram:
the hotel,
the pub,
the haus tambaran, —
shadows from the fleeting experiences
snatched from the limbo
of a memory untouched,
unspoken.

.Komuniti Centre

“The Komuniti Centre - the Catholic challenge to conservatism.”

Deborah R Wall
Angoram, 1973

The Community Centre was the brainchild of a progressive Dutch priest, Fr Fons Ruijter SVD, pictured here. His theology and liturgical practice were progressive and he advocated a practical brand of social action that was both Christian and humanistic.
