Process asylum seekers on the Australian mainland

(“High Court sinks asylum strategy”, SMH, September 1, 2011) In the recent debate about asylum seekers the High Court’s decision is about the only thing that has made me proud to be Australian. In the past we’ve had the Pacific solution with Nauru and Manus Island being made dumping grounds for asylum seekers. The East Timor solution didn’t see the light of day. The Malaysian solution was nearly launched. I, myself, suggested in jest, the Sepik solution and now I have another idea, the Antarctic solution, not for refugees but for Julia Gillard, Chris Bowen, Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison. Keep them all in the cold until they come up with a bi-partisan agreement to process asylum seekers on the Australian mainland.
